Henry Winkler evacuated after Ireland hotel catches fire

Henry Winkler was awoken by an emergency while in Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday morning.

The actor and many others within Dublin’s historic Shelbourne Hotel were ordered to evacuate after a fire broke out. Regardless of the emergency, The Fonz was in good spirits.

“Thank you Dublin’s fire department,” Winkler posted to X, formerly Twitter. “Our hotel was evacuated on our first morning!!!”

The “Barry” star told RTÉ News that he at first thought the fire alarm was “the clock radio.”

“I thought somebody had set the alarm before we got there, like another guest,” he explained. “Finally, I went into another room and it was still buzzing. So I called downstairs and the woman said in a very calm voice, ‘Yes, we’re all evacuating, you must evacuate right now.’”

He then praised the brave women and men who battled the fire.

“Firemen are some of my favorite human beings. Firemen and firewomen, they run in when other people are running out. I think they deserve their hands to be shook.”

According to the Dublin Fire Brigade, crews responded to the blaze around 10:38 a.m.

“The fire is under control with an effective evacuation helping enormously,” the department posted to X. “Six fire engines including a turntable ladder and emergency tender remain on scene.”

The Irish Independent reports that the department brought the fire under control about an hour later and left the scene at around noon.
